OLD PHOTOS AND DOCUMENTS

The other day I was going through some old papers and documents and found some photographs from my Parsons School of  Design Years.

I am sitting in a St Mark's cafe in Manhattan's East Village, around 1986 -87. A friend of mine took them with her camera, I think.

A letter from the Dean of The Students informs me that I have been named to the Dean's List. The year was 1984

THE "MELISSINOS THE POET SANDALMAKER'S" CELEBRITY CHAIRS

And here are "The  Celebrity Chairs" in front of our old sandal workshop. This is another 2004 photo I took before we were forced to leave our old place on Pandrossou St. This is the shop where my grandfather, Georgios Melissinos, started his footwear business in 1920 and where my father, Stavros, created in the 50's his first ancient Greek sandals  in modern times.

These sandals were not only good for the theater, but also for the daily lives of real people.

They were inspired by their Ancient Greek counterparts. In the begining some shopkeepers, in the area, thought he was an eccentric, but after his success they followed suit and copied his designs.
